Molly Hand, a Birmingham native, would best be described as anartistic mutt. She is an Irish dance teacher, amateur photographer, and artist of sorts. Generally distracted by shiny things, she decided it would be best to work with wire; found metal objects, and old jewelry as it would hold her attention long enough to finish a project. Inspiration for the sculptures came from a visit to an organization that did work in third world countries using re-appropriated materials to create tools, houses, and toys. She started creating the mixed media sculptures after a visit there in 1999.
