Shelleigh Buckingham

Shelleigh Buckingham is a Birmingham native who remembers her mother teaching her to sew as a child on a 1950's Singer sewing machine which started her love of fabrics and patterns. In college, she pursued a studio art degree in intaglio printmaking, being drawn to the patterns on maps and simple symbols. Currently she is a local optometrist, but has found her way back to that old Singer sewing machine to make up-cycled t-shirt and fabric purses. For her, reusing found fabric not only recycles, but it inspires memories and nostalgia for favorite clothes that can be remade into wearable art.
